The FuseFX Academy

Founded in 2006, FuseFX is an award-winning Visual Effects Studio providing visual effects services for television series, feature films, commercials, and virtual productions.

Our flagship studio is in Los Angeles, CA, with locations in New York City, Vancouver, BC., and Atlanta. FuseFX is joined by its sister studios FOLKS,  Rising Sun Pictures, and El Ranchito collectively known as the Pitch Black Company. Pitch Black has a combined 1400+ artists in thirteen worldwide studio locations.

FuseFX invites recent grads to apply for an exciting opportunity to work with top artists, creative supervisors and production team in a real-live production opportunity during our Summer 2022 Apprenticeship. Apprentices take a deep dive into real productions, learn the pipeline and get a taste for what it is like to work in a production environment at FuseFX. The apprenticeship will last four weeks and give apprentices the opportunity to learn our FuseFX pipeline & tools, our team, workflow, and to apply skills learned through shot work. This program is open to recent graduates who are within one year of graduation or less than a year of professional work experience.

The ideal apprentice will showcase the following qualities:

  • Competency in Art & Technology
  • Software fluency within skill discipline (Nuke, Maya, Houdini, etc.)
  • Critical thinkers, problem solvers, good communication skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to meet deadlines in a tight episodic timeline
  • Comfortable with receiving feedback
  • Honesty, integrity, respect for others and the work environment
Has demonstrated the aptitude to create excellent imagery and/or visual effects shots

1. Will this be remote or in-office?
These opportunities will be a hybrid of both remote and in-office in the studio location that you are based in.

2. If remote, can I be based anywhere?
We can only accept apprentices that either live in the city or are open to relocation to the city where the studio apprenticeship is being held.

3. After the apprenticeship, what happens?
The apprenticeship is a four-week program to learn our tools, workflow and team here at FuseFX. At the end of the program, each apprentice will be evaluated on their time during the apprenticeship. Those who are successful will be offered contracts to become junior artists within the studio. There is a possibility of moving to other facilities or potentially traveling to where the work is. We hope to grow artists to become long-term employees within FuseFX.

4. Will you consider international students?
We will consider international students that have received their OPT work post graduate Visa.

5. What to expect curriculum wise?
You can expect a mix of practical tool-based training, artistic training, as well as overall skills to be successful at FuseFX. You will learn from multiple senior staff as well as be paired with a mentor.

6. When will you offer the apprenticeship again?
We can’t guarantee a timeframe, but hope to offer it annually during the Summer or Fall – likely the next one would be mid-late 2023.
